Day 1Depart central Paris and drive west to the city of Angers, home of the Plantagenet dynasty for an introduction to the wines of Anjou and lunch. The massive château offers an intriguing tour with many works of art, particularly renowned for its tapestries including the Apocalypse series.
Then drive to picturesque Saumur, with its distinctive towered chateau and our riverside hotel. Presentation of wines of the Loire followed by dinner in nearby restaurant. Free time to explore the town.
Day 2Cross the Loire to Bourgueil and call at a family vineyard producing red and rosé wines. Chinon and Bourgueil reds, once regarded as amongst the best in France are once again highly rated throughout the World. Opportunity to taste and buy.
Then on to Azay-le-Rideau, passing troglodyte dwellings. Free time lunch before visiting the beautifully proportioned moated château, set in parkland for a relaxing and interesting visit.
Drive to our hotel in the city of Tours. Dinner at hotel.
Day 3Following the Loire eastwards, call at Amboise, a beautiful riverside town dominated by its handsome château. One time capital of France, attractions today include the house of Leonardo da Vinci, now a museum containing models of his inventions. Wine tasting and lunch in town.
Taking the north bank of the river Cher, make for Château Chenonceau. Once the home of Catherine de Medici, the history of this remarkable palace spans four centuries - promenade through the salons and gardens and sense these significant events. Wine tasting before taking the road back to Paris.
